About Us

About Us

Kingfisher Lacrosse represents the first organized club structure to appear in Eastern Iowa. Kingfisher Lacrosse is the operational name of the Cedar Rapids – Iowa City Lacrosse Club, a volunteer led, 501(c)(3) organization formed in 2020 to guide the development of youth lacrosse in the greater Cedar Rapids - Iowa City area. We operate with USA Lacrosse, meaning all our coaches and players are USA Lacrosse members and our standards of play and safety are guided by USA Lacrosse standards.

Who can play? We support competitive play opportunities for GIRLS and BOYS from ages 5-18. No previous experience is required to join our program.

When do we play? The focal point of the lacrosse year is Spring. Our teams will be prepared to compete against other lacrosse clubs in Iowa and the greater Midwest throughout the spring season (which lasts from approximately March to early June – dates vary by age group). During the spring, we will host several practices per week with game play typically on weekends. Given the state of development for lacrosse in Iowa, travel for games will be necessary in Iowa (to Des Moines, the Tama Settlement, Dubuque, and Quad Cities) and perhaps to locations in the states surrounding Iowa.

We also support summer and fall skills development programs (w/ some competitive play options).

Where do you play? We use fields in Cedar Rapids (Mt Mercy), the Solon Recreation and Nature Area, and Coralville Youth Sports Complex. As our numbers grow, we fully expect to begin supporting practices and games in other locations across the Cedar Rapids – Iowa City region.

How can I help? Help spread the word about our Club and your experiences with us. Encourage other families to give us a try and introduce us to other organizations that we might partner with for a learn to play opportunity. We partner with Parks & Recreation departments and other youth sports organizations to provide “learn to play” clinics while building separate competitive teams for boys and girls ages from elementary school through high school.

What is the future of lacrosse in Iowa? Our long-term goal is to build high school affiliated (and associated youth teams) for boys and girls in the greater Cedar Rapids - Iowa City area to compete against other similar programs in Iowa and across the Midwest.
